2018 in photos
Third year of doing one of these summaries. 2018 has been a great one and a tough one, but I’ve taken some pictures I’m bloody proud of.
January
Started the year on a positive note. I turned 25 with a lot of people I love, saw good films and good art, and spent a weekend in Yorkshire in a medieval tower.
February
Joined Goaldiggers FC, which has been one of the best parts of 2018. Danced with my friends, spent a lot of time at work out of office hours, had my portrait taken, shot some decent 35mm - and it snowed!
March
Sold my most successful show at The Yard (and its most successful ever). Played in the Women of the World Orchestra at the Southbank Centre once more, visited one of my dearest pals in Newcastle, finally saw Hamilton, and went to Copenhagen with my family (for a backgammon tournament).
April
Roadtripped through Romania, a country I have been wanting to visit for 7 years. Read a lot, played a lot of football, saw a lot of fucking fantastic art and learnt how to garden (sort of).
May
Headed northwards to pick up a dog and visit Liverpool for the first time, celebrated a year at The Yard, saw lots of friends, assisted on my first casting, and made the most of having learnt to garden.
June
Saw LOADS of theatre despite the weather, including some of my favourites of the year. Cooked with the fruits of the garden, returned to Oxford for a weekend (where I met Celia Imrie), and started my love affair with Hackney Wick’s new station.
July
The weather was bloody good, the World Cup happened, I returned to my favourite festival Brainchild with an even bigger selection of great pals and spent a long and sweaty weekend in France.
August
Went to Margate with my colleagues on the one day of the summer it poured. Took the sleeper to Edinburgh, saw a lot of theatre, and went on the perfect 48 hour road trip through beautiful Scotland. Shot a wedding, looked after the perfect cat and spent a very silly weekend in Amsterdam with my best friends.
September
Took a day of annual leave in order to see Harry Potter. Spent an incredibly glorious weekend alone by the sea. Joined the committee of an organisation of excellent young people and went to a theme park for the first time in a decade with colleagues and old friends.
October
Visited my dad’s neo-neolithic burial mound on a glorious day. Shot the christening of the product of a wedding I shot last year. I went to my great love New York and saw old friends, newer friends, huge art and endless food.
November
Returned to Newcastle with some of the best. Soaked in Autumn sunsets. Read more than usual. Danced. Worked quite a lot. Made some big decisions.
December
An intense, stressful, alternately happy and devastating sprint to the end of the year. Smashed a big work announcement and made a massive personal change. Visited friends, watched a pal get civil partnered, chased witches in Lancaster, spent an unexpected Christmas with my family in Amsterdam, and ended the year with a lot of art and a cold.
