everything I look for in a place to drink a coffee and do some work

This year I have done a lot of sitting in different spaces to drink a coffee and do some work. This is because I am a part-time student, and there’s a lot of work to be done and a lot of caffeination that is necessary to facilitate its doing. I am very clear on my priorities of what I need from a place to drink a coffee and do some work, in part because I keep a spreadsheet scoring such spaces in and around my university according to a number of clearly-outlined categories, which are clearly outlined below.

convenience. Is it near places that I need to be, such as university, home, work? This will mainly influence whether I attend to drink a coffee and do some work in the first place.

wifi. If there is no wifi I probably cannot drink a single coffee or do any work.

plugs. Are there plugs? How many plugs? Are they hard-won? Are they situated only beside the least cosy and atmospheric tables? If there aren’t plugs or plugs are unsatisfyingly located I can probably only drink one coffee and do a very small amount of work.

quality of coffee. This is not a deal-breaker because I generally do try to drink only one coffee while doing some work for economy and heart-rate reasons. However if the coffee is good then it will generally improve the quantity and quality of work achieved, and if it is not then I will not go back.

other users. Truly one of the most important categories in this scoring system and indeed in life as a whole. Are there a lot of businessmen in there taking loud meetings? This will not score well. Are there quiet and studious Gen-Zs? This will probably improve the quality of my work.

aesthetics. More important to me than I care to admit and definitely influences the quality of my work and how long I will stay doing it.

overall vibe. This is of course a combination of all of the above categories. The key vibe-killers are: excessive overhead lighting; poor quality of other users; whether it is a Starbucks. The overall vibe will determine whether I return to drink a coffee and do some work.
