I stumbled across The Cautious Traveller’s Guide to the Wastelands in the British Library bookshop on a lunchbreak, drawn in by the train-centred cover design. Turns out I’d shot its author’s cover jacket portrait in the Barbican last year, the brilliant Sarah Brooks. It has turned out to be one of my favourite reads of 2024 so far, magical surrealism and thriller and dining car and trans-siberian mysteries - highly recommend.
